Paper: Business Formation

Assignment Instructions

Shania Jackson is a mature Christian thinking of opening a Christian coffeehouse near Detroit, Michigan. Her husband, Marvin, is open to making a contribution of capital to the business, but he has no interest in participating in its day-to-day operations or management.

Shania’s sister, Kelsey, is a new Christian who has told Shania that she’s been looking for an excuse to get out of the house and would love to be a part of the business. Kelsey’s husband, a non-Christian, opposes his wife’s involvement and has told her that he wants her to remain a stay-at-home mom to their 2 children.

Shania’s neighbor, Carlos, is a non-Christian who has also expressed an interest in participating in the business as a way to earn extra income. Carlos thinks the “Christian thing” has potential with all the big churches in the area, including a Mormon temple and a large Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Shania has considered organizing her business as a sole proprietorship, a partnership of some sort, a small corporation, or an LLC.

Advise Shania on the following decisions:

1. Which of the business entities under consideration best accomplishes her business goals?Thoroughly explain the reasons for your recommendations.

2. Which of the interested persons she should include in her business, in what role(s), and why? Your analysis must include Biblical perspectives, such as Biblical considerations of marriage, and business relationships with non-believers. Thoroughly explain the reasons for your recommendations.

Support your analysis with at least 3 scholarly sources other than the course materials, cited in-text and in a reference list. You must also integrate Biblical worldview analysis.

This paper must contain at least 800 words and follow current APA format but does not require an abstract. The title page, abstract (if you include one), and reference list do not count towards the length requirement. Submit your paper as a Word document.

When faced with a difficult decision or set of decisions, as in teen pregnancy, creating a decision-making worksheet can be a valuable tool. This is similar to making a pros and cons list which you may already do. For this assignment, you will all be writing about teen pregnancy. Instructions: • In a paragraph or two, define the problem. • Consider the alternative ways to address the problem. Write about all that you can think of, but you are required to identify at least four. • Next, consider both the positive and negative consequences of each option. Discuss at least two positive and two negative consequences for each alternative. • Then discuss your values that most relevant to the decision. Some of these values may conflict with the others, or conflict with family, community, or cultural values. The point here is not to make judgments on which values are right or wrong but to focus on your individual values, how you define them, and how they impact your decision. • Write a list of other people who may be impacted by any of the alternatives/decisions. • Finally, based on all the above, what do you feel is the best decision for you in this scenario? • After identifying your best option, please discuss how it felt to complete this process. What was challenging? How does this help to provide insight into the decision-making process of people in crisis? Requirements: • Submit a Word document in APA format. • Maximum 2 pages in length, excluding the Title and Reference pages. • At least two resources, in addition to the course textbook.

Benjamin Franklin once said “If you are talented and work hard, you can achieve financial success.” It is rational to argue that this is not necessarily true. It is also perfectly reasonable to say “Absolutely, work hard and you can achieve the ‘American Dream’!” Our viewpoints on this issue are typically shaped by how we were raised and our personal experiences. The following podcast challenges Benjamin Franklin’s position, claiming that it does not reflect the realities of poverty in the United States today. Listen to the podcast, think critically, and form your own viewpoint.

Follow the link below to listen to the podcast online.

– What did you find striking/interesting about the podcast?
– Can you relate to the idea of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps?” How so?
– How does the textbook define “negative liberty” and “positive liberty”? Which type of liberty appeals more to you as an individual?
– Did this podcast shift your viewpoint on the myths of poverty in the U.S.? If so, in what ways? If not, which components of the discussion of poverty still ring true for you?
